JAPAN · THAILAND · HONG KONG

May 16 – June 10, 2027 · twenty-six days

Josh & Dayna Koch

Tokyo first, not last. The tour starts in Tokyo and ends near Hiroshima, so arriving early in Tokyo and leaving from Kansai for Southeast Asia is one continuous westward loop with no backtracking. Both Disney days land on a Tuesday by design, and Bangkok runs Thursday to Monday so Chatuchak is open on the Sunday.

Times are local. Anything under “Still open” depends on a booking or an answer that is not in yet.

Timetable

  1. Tokyo & Disney Resort

    May 16 – 20

    Sheraton Grande Tokyo Bay

Overnight from SFO lands the morning of the 17th, which leaves two full days to absorb the time change before the group convenes on the 20th.

    • May 16 — SFO departs late evening, nonstop to Haneda.
    • May 17 — Land early morning. Check in, stay upright until a normal bedtime.
    • May 18 — DisneySea. Tuesday by design; tickets open around March 18, 2027.

  2. Odysseys Insider's Japan

    May 20 – June 1

Guided — hotels set by the operator

Tokyo to Hakone to Takayama to Kanazawa to Kyoto to Hiroshima. Land only, which means no airport transfers on either end.

    • Tokyo — the group forms here on May 20.
    • Hakone — Fuji country.
    • Takayama — the old merchant town in the Japanese Alps.
    • Kanazawa — Kenroku-en and the samurai and geisha districts.
    • Kyoto — the long stop.
    • Hiroshima — where the main tour hands off to the extension.
  3. Hiroshima: City of Peace

    June 1 – 3

Extension — hotels set by the operator

The two-day extension after the main tour. Where it ends decides the June 3 flight to Bangkok, and that is still open.

    • June 1 — Extension begins.
    • June 2 — Peace Memorial Park and Miyajima.
    • June 3 — Fly to Bangkok from Kansai, or from Hiroshima if the extension ends there.
  4. Bangkok

    June 3 – 7

The Athenee, a Luxury Collection Hotel · 61 Wireless Road, Lumpini

The same property as April 2026. Ploenchit BTS is a short walk, which puts Siam, Chit Lom and the MRT interchange within minutes.

    • Thursday June 3 — Arrive late. Nothing scheduled.
    • Friday June 4 — Guided train-market and temple day. Pickup around 7:00.
    • Saturday June 5 — Grand Palace at opening. Dinner cruise on the Chao Phraya.
    • Sunday June 6 — Chatuchak at 9:00, then a quiet afternoon.
    • Monday June 7 — Fly to Hong Kong mid-morning.
  5. Hong Kong

    June 7 – 10

JW Marriott at Pacific Place, Admiralty

Walking distance to the Peak Tram lower terminus on Garden Road, on top of Admiralty MTR, and a quick taxi to Hong Kong Station for the Airport Express.

    • Monday June 7 — Arrive. Peak Tram in the evening, when the weekend queues are gone.
    • Tuesday June 8 — Hong Kong Disneyland. World of Frozen first, at opening.
    • Wednesday June 9 — Guided Lantau day, roughly 8:30 to 17:00.
    • Thursday June 10 — Fly home to SFO.

Sights & hours

Bangkok

June is hot and wet. The rule is outdoor things before noon, indoors or poolside after. Afternoon storms are short and heavy, so carry a compact umbrella rather than a rain jacket.

Grand Palace & Wat Phra Kaew

8:30–15:30 (tickets) · ฿500 pp

Arrive at 8:30; tour groups flood in after 10:00. Plan 2–3 hours. Shoulders and knees covered, nothing tight or see-through — sarong rental at the gate if you miss.

Wat Pho

8:00–18:30 · ฿300 pp

Ten-minute walk south of the Palace. The Reclining Buddha, and the original Thai massage school on site.

Wat Arun

8:00–18:00 · ฿200 pp

Cross-river ferry from Tha Tien pier, a few baht. Climb the central prang early, before the heat.

Chatuchak Weekend Market

Sat–Sun 9:00–18:00 · Free

MRT Chatuchak Park or BTS Mo Chit. Be there at 9:00; midday heat peaks 11–2. Sections 1 and 26 for antiques and ceramics, 3A for plants, 27 for a sit-down lunch.

Maeklong + Damnoen Saduak

Pickup ~7:00 · Guided, private

Cash only at both markets and no ATMs, so bring ฿500–700 each.

Hong Kong

Three nights, so nothing that costs thirty minutes each way. Airport-area hotels are out for that reason.

Hong Kong Disneyland

Usually 10:00–21:00 · Tier 1, HK$669 pp midweek

A ticket and a park reservation are both required. Reservations open 90 days out, so about March 10, 2027 for June 8. An hour from Central via Sunny Bay. Go straight to World of Frozen at opening — longest waits in the park.

Peak Tram

7:00–midnight · HK$88 return weekday; Sky Pass from HK$149

Buy online to skip the ticket line. Weekend 4–7 PM queues run to 90 minutes; a Monday evening is fine. The free Lugard Road loop beats the paid Sky Terrace for views.

Star Ferry

~6:30–23:30 · A few HK$

Central to Tsim Sha Tsui, about ten minutes. Best at dusk.

Lantau day

Guided, ~8:30–17:00 · Private guide

Check Ngong Ping 360's 2027 maintenance dates before booking — it closed June 2–21 in 2026.

Airport Express in-town check-in

Hong Kong Station, 6:00–23:00 (Cathay) · With an Airport Express ticket

Drop bags up to 24 hours ahead and no later than 90 minutes before departure, then spend the morning bag-free. Cathay participates; United does not, so a United award home means taking bags to the airport yourself.

What to book, and when

  • Now

The Athenee for June 3–7 and the JW Marriott for June 7–10, both on flexible Bonvoy rates. Search the Thai KIX–BKK nonstop and United HKG–SFO for award space.

The June 3 flight out of Japan — Kansai if the extension ends in Osaka, Hiroshima or a Shinkansen to Kansai if it ends in Hiroshima. That decides the departure time.

Cash flights, including Thai BKK–HKG on June 7 and any leg not covered with miles.

  • Ngong Ping 360's 2027 maintenance window.

Blocks: The June 9 Lantau day, which assumes the cable car is running.
